Venue:
Camp Moogerah in the heart of the scenic rim.

Purpose of the weekend:
To provide an opportunity for woodcrafters in various disciplines to engage with people of similar interest, be inspired and share your knowledge. This will be the third Woodcrafters Assembly based on the successful inaugural event held in 2015.

Woodcraft disciplines included:
Carving
Pyrography
Scrollsawing
Box making workshop
Hand tools workshop

 

Although woodturning is not included, wood turners will have an opportunity to learn other crafts that can be used to embellish their turned work. Bring some bowls and platters to practice on.

Box making workshop:
Two separate box making workshops with experienced tutors:

Box making workshop 1; dovetail joints using a Gifkin jig, lining, hinges, catches and finish.
Box making workshop 2; mitre joints, including a drawer, hinges and finish.
Kits are included in the box making workshops for an additional fee.
Go home with a finished box and the knowledge to create more boxes.

Hand tools workshop:
Learn the skills associated with hand tools from Reg Cooke, an experienced hand tool craftsman keen to pass on his knowledge. An opportunity too good to pass up for the serious wood worker.
Sharpening, tuning and correct use and care of a wood plane.
Sharpening, use and care of various wood chisels.
Sharpening, setting and cutting technique of a tenon saw.
Marking out and hand cutting dovetail joints.

Bring your own planes, chisels and saws to work with. Bring an oil stone.
The hand tools workshop will require wood to work with, suitable wood will be available to purchase.

Equipment:

The Ipswich Woodcrafts Club will provide bandsaw, thicknesser, belt, drum & bobin sanders, router table, Gifkins dovetail jig, drill press, grinder, lathe, scroll saws and work tables.
Please bring your own tools, scroll saw, portable power tools, chisels etc.
Wood will be available on site for purchase or bring your own.

 

Venue facilities:

Camp Moogerah is set in 20 picturesque acres on the scenic shores of Lake Moogerah and offers lovely gardens with plenty of shady spots to sit and enjoy a quiet retreat.
The Activity Shed at Camp Moogerah is suitable for presentations and workshops.
Air-conditioned Dining Hall.
Fully equipped commercial kitchen with servery.
Bunk bed cabins for up to 270. Supply your own linen.
Alternative accommodation is available, powered caravan/camp sites.
Shared toilet/shower facilities are separate to the cabins.
Accommodation, workshops and all meals included in the fee.

Cost:

The cost for cabin accommodation, meals, morning and afternoon tea is only $160, payable with the return of the completed registration form.
The workshops have additional costs for kits, see registration form.
The event kicks off with a lunch time sausage sizzle on Friday.
